How to Reset a Crooked Dresser Drawer

Use this guide to reset a crooked or misaligned dresser drawer that uses detachable metal tracks and slides, assuming that there are no other offending factors.

A crooked dresser drawer is really frustrating to deal with when it jams and you can’t get what is needed from that particular drawer. Not only that, pulling out a crooked drawer can lead to injury as it is not aligned on the tracks correctly to keep it in place. Luckily, this problem comes with an easy fix with no special tools needed.

Empty out the crooked drawer before removing it.
Grab hold of the handle and pull the crooked drawer out slowly until it cannot go any further. You can tell when it starts to rock forward.
When the drawer rocks forward, do not let go of the handle. Letting go will lead to the drawer falling out and may cause injury.

Grab one side of the drawer with your free hand. Let go of the handle and grab the other side of the drawer.
Pull it straight out towards yourself, lifting slightly. The crooked drawer will come out of the dresser completely.

Set the drawer down. Check the two metal slides and rollers on both sides of the drawer for damages. Make sure they are not loose.

Inside the dresser, check the two metal tracks and square locks on both sides for damages. Make sure they are parallel to the edges of the drawer and not loose.

Hold the drawer on both sides and bring it up to the opening of the dresser where you removed it.
Align the rollers on the drawer with the square locks on the inside of the dresser. Set the rollers on top of the square locks on the inside of the dresser.

Hold the drawer on both sides and slightly tilt the front of the drawer upward.

Holding the sides still, slowly ease the drawer forward and then down so that the drawer is leveled. You will hear and feel a click.
Let go of the sides and grab the handle of the drawer.
Push the drawer closed and then pull it open again to make sure it slides back and forth with ease.
