    • Use a Y1 screw driver to remove the screw on the back of the game cartridge.

i dont have a triwing screwdriver! what else can i use?

    CJ Natara - Antwoord

Sorry for the delay, but in order to make sure you don't strip the screw, i would suggest buying the Tri-wing screwdriver. Besides you never know when you may need a Tri-wing in the future.

I bought a Y1 for this project and it is too big! It looks like a Y0 would do the trick.

    • Make sure that you are grounded. While carefully holding the ROM board in place, use a sculpting knife to carefully pry the top contact off the dead battery by utilizing a slow, rocking motion.

    • This may require a significant amount of of force. Take care not to pry the contact off the board in the process. Make sure to start prying at the tip of the contact.

Hello! I recently decided to restart a fresh playthrough of my Pokémon emerald, but I came across the dry battery problem and am planning on fixing it using this method in the next few weeks. I was wondering what exactly you mean by being “grounded”. I know what the term means, but I don’t know if you mean “grounded” like with welding. Thank you in advance!

    Nate - Antwoord

Grounded as in electrically grounded so as not to short out the chipset. There are bracelets and mats as examples that can be used. The bracelets are usually pretty cheap but will do the job in my opinion.

    • Repeat step two with the bottom contact.

    • Optional: Use sand paper to file the nubs on the contacts where the contacts were physically attached to the battery.

  4. Gameboy Advance Cartridge Battery Replacement: stap 5, afbeelding 1 van 1
    • Place the new CR1616 battery in between the two contacts with the positive terminal facing down (textured side up).

What amperage should i use for the battery? it doesn't specify and I've found CR2025 batteries in different amperages.

    Swordplay - Antwoord

You don't need to worry about amperage when buying a battery. Whatever is pulling power from the battery will automatically draw the correct amperage.

If you meant amp-hours: you don't need to worry too much about this either. Amp-hours is how much energy is in the battery. Most batteries of the same type have about the same amount of power packed into them; unless you buy fake ones from china off of ebay.

    • Use electrical tape to adhere the two contacts to the battery. Make sure to wrap the tape underneath the bottom contact and over the top sandwiching the battery in between.

    • Before taping the top contact to the battery, put a piece of electrical tape on the edge of the battery where the top contact has a chance of touching the edge. This will prevent a battery short and headaches.

Put a piece of electrical tape on the edge of the battery where on the top contact? And where on which edge of touching what? Thanks! ;)

    • Place the ROM board into the bottom cartridge casing. Replace the top casing and the Y1 screw.

The battery in the picture is the original one! The CR2032 won't fit and the plastic shell won't close!

    Andrea - Antwoord

Yes I know it is the original, but it is not the point though, it is the principal of just putting it back together the way you started. The CR2032 is a big battery and i tried it in my my own copies of Ruby and Sapphire and it bulges the case but the case will go back together and fit *snugly* into a GBA slot and it does work. As stated in the guide try to use a CR2025 or a CR2016, they should fit better with the case.

Does replacing the battery delete save data?

I have a pokemon emerals cart with over 200 hours in it. I want to use the time events without deleting my data. How would I do this?

    Gary Sherman - Antwoord

No, replacing the battery doesn't erase saved data. It just starts up timed events again and gets rid of the "dry batter" message.

    Benjamin Cunliffe -

and it allows the player to transfer to diamond and pearl again

    Benjamin Cunliffe -

    • Test the repair by playing it in a compatible drive (i.e. Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Micro, DS, or DS Lite)

    • If the message still appears, check to make sure that the contacts have a good connection with the battery.

Conclusie

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Ben, Dry internal battery's do not adversely effect, migration in any way or form.

Justin - Antwoord

What i would like to know is why do people mention all these various battery numbers. The board says cr1616 right on it. And that battery is available just as easy as the others and is what belongs in it.

tsiconquest88 - Antwoord

Don't use anything but CR1616 Batteries, it bulges the cartridges case, cracking it over some time and adding wear to the games label.

Thiemo Krause - Antwoord

In some cartridges, the original battery is a CR1620

I recently bought a sapphire that someone broke off the arms and tabs completely off the board. Can I still solder on a new battery to the board even though there is no old solder left on the positive side of the board?

Kirk Loose - Antwoord

Soldering a new battery and new tabs is very simple, you just need to buy some solder and a soldering iron if you dont already have it and just simply reattatch it with them, the way its supposed to be done

charizard447 -

You should be able to as long as nothing on the board itself was damaged. Clean up any excess solder and possibly broken pieces. Get the new battery contacts to solder on and new battery. Install and it should be fine. Good luck

Will this guide work for a copy of Mario vs Donkey kong?

Alex summerdown - Antwoord

Anyone reading this method do not do it as it is a dangerous method using a blade near a battery and it is also the incorrect way in replacing these batteries.

I also like how in step 5 you replace it with the wrong size battery with tape and then it shrinks back down to the old size battery and the tape is mysteriously gone :O [can i get some of this magic vanish tape plz dm me ;) ]
