Over time, your DualShock 4 controller will probably be dropped, stepped on, or even thrown. The plastic shell helps to protect the internal components of the controller, but eventually, you might find that this protective shell needs to be replaced or re-aligned. This step-by-step process will show you how to fix this problem yourself.

  1. DualShock 4 Plastic Shell Replacement, Plastic Shell: stap 1, afbeelding 1 van 1
    • To remove the plastic shell, use the Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four 6.0 mm screws securing the back of the controller.

  2. DualShock 4 Plastic Shell Replacement: stap 2, afbeelding 1 van 1
    • The plastic shell is held in place by little plastic tabs that snap together.

    • Wedge the plastic opening tool between the shell and the controller and carefully pry off the plastic.

    • Take your time on this step. You do not want to break any plastic pieces.

  3. DualShock 4 Plastic Shell Replacement: stap 3, afbeelding 1 van 1
    • Either re-align the old plastic shell, or align a new replacement shell with the controller. The little plastic tabs that snap together should be aligned.

    • Apply pressure on the plastic housing so that it clicks together.

  4. DualShock 4 Plastic Shell Replacement: stap 4, afbeelding 1 van 1
    • Using the Phillips #00 screwdriver, replace and tighten the four 6.0 mm screws on the back of the controller.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

i have done this before. once you separate the controller, there will be a flat white cable connecting the bottom to the top. that is the charging port, so disconnect that. after, remove the battery and the black plastic piece. there will be a screw either holding the black piece on, or a hole on the black piece where a screw is. this screw is holding the motherboard to the top shell. take that screw out. then on the top right of the motherboard, unplug that wire. that is the touchpad cable. then, you should be able to take the motherboard out. then, there will be rubber pieces holding all of the top buttons in. on the d pad and action buttons, there are 4 little spots where they attach. on the power button, there are 2 spots. hope this helps

Nice job, you taught us how to take the screws off the controller. Congratulations!!!
