Disassemble & Repair Roccat Elo Air 7.1 headphones

Inleiding

The disassembly is a straightforward process, this will guide you through the entire process to repair or replace parts.

The next part is to repair cracked stress points above the swivel for the ear cup.

Using a small flat screwdriver, or small plastic pry tool, unclip the outside plate at the point shown in the first pic.
These typically crack right below the clip. The screwdriver is pointed at exactly where the clip is in the first pic.

The two swivel pieces are labeled "L" and "R", so you won't mix them up.
Put the headphones to the side, focusing on the two swivel pieces.
With the small flat screwdriver, prepare the surface by scratching the inside of the swivel plate between the cracks - or at the area shown. (this is the stress point)

With packing tape, or electrical tape, tape off the area starting at the edge of the clip point.
This is to potentially save the function of the clip, but if it doesn't work it's fine, we still need the area clear for the plastic to insert and fully clamp together.

Only do this to one side at a time, we are working with super glue which cures quickly, and baking soda makes it cure even faster.
Add a thin layer of super glue to the scratched area. Do not let it build up in the bottom, the bottom clip has to fit in there.
Immediately sprinkle baking soda over the super glue. When it's completely covered, turn it upside down and dump the excess baking soda out.
Repeat this process 3 or 4 times, until it has reached the thickness desired.
Repeat for the other swivel piece.

Remove the pieces of tape.
Install the piece sliding up from the bottom, this is how the top and bottom clips together.
Ensure the fitment is correct, if it is not (as pictured) move to the next step

The swivel piece is held on by 6 points and 2 screws, so removing these two clips is fine
Using pliers, remove the two box shaped clips from the headband inside piece, not the piece we've been working on.
The last picture is how the headband piece should look after removing the clips.

Reassemble, if it doesn't seem to fit together, glue is in the way.
Using the small flat screwdriver, trim the glue from inside the swivel piece - trim it out from the bottom so the other piece can fit inside.
Repeat this process until it clips together and fits properly, the only two areas that will prevent fitment is the bottom and where the clips went on the sides.

Reinstall the 2 screws on the headband side, on each side. 4 in total.
Place the ear cups on the swivel, lining it up as it supposed to be.
Close the plastic around the swivel, and reinstall the 2 screws for each side. 4 in total.
Finished! This should be much stronger!
