This guide shows how to replace the AC recirculation blend door on a 1999–2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee through the glove box, avoiding having to remove the dashboard.

The recirculation blend door controls whether your vehicle uses outside air or recirculates cabin air. A common failure point is the hinge of the blend door. When it fails, you may notice the system not switching recirculation modes when the button is pressed, or repeated clicking or grinding noises as the system attempts to cycle the door.

This method does require cutting non-structural plastic grates that cover the access point.

Before starting, be prepared to work in a tight space and use caution when cutting plastic.

  Remove the three T25 screws from the AC blower fan under the glove box.

  On the right side, move the glove box damper up and out of the slot.

  Inside the glove box, on the upper side, there are two rubber stoppers. Pull them down to remove each one.
  
  Pull the glove box down, and push in on the top of the glove box if it gets stuck going down.

6. Stap 5
  Inside the glove box area, cut and remove the two plastic grates blocking the recirculation door.
  
  These grates do not have to be replaced.

7. Stap 6
  Remove the pin from the replacement blend door.
  
  Cut the blend door in half.
  
  Sand the rough edges.

8. Stap 7
  Open the fuse box located in the engine bay on the passenger side and remove the fuse indicated.
  
  This is to stop the car from moving the blend door before the glue has set.

9. Stap 8
  Remove the old blend door, and test the fit of the replacement pieces. Place the left piece first and then the right piece.
  
  Remove the right piece, apply plastic glue and place it back in. Ensure that both pieces line up with each other.

After the glue has set for the time on its instructions, replace the fuse and place the car in the on position. Allow the blend door to calibrate itself, then test its functionality. Turn the car off. Recirculation is now ready to be used.
