After water damage: Repairing charging circuit?

Hi,

Here are the facts:

1. The iPod only powers on when connected to the charger. As soon as I disconnect it, it shuts down.

2. Every App works perfectly. Touch screen and Wifi are ok.

3. The battery seems to be charged. However, its charging level always stays the same.

Here is my diagnosis:

It seems that the charging circuit is destroyed. Does anyone know if it is possible to repair this circuit (DIY) and how (which component)?

Thanks for any responses.

Steffen

Hi oldturkey03, Thanks for your advice. I will replace the battery first and will proceed as you described. Thanks a lot!

Hi oldturkey03, Thanks again for your advice to first replace the battery. I checked the old battery (not plugged in) and got 0.94V. This indicated that the battery was gone. So, I ordered a new one, built it in, and now the iPod is back and works perfectly! Thank you very much! BTW> You should have seen the teenager that gave me the waterdamaged iPod in the first place. When he got it back, he was SO thankful and gave me a BIG smile. Heartwarming!

Before you try to work on the charging circuit, have you replaced the battery yet? That is where I would start. Also, take a multimeter and see what your voltage is on the battery contact, plugged in, and not plugged it. Checked your dock connector for corrosion and /or debris?
