iPod touch stuck in recovery mode even after restore.

Hello,

Thanks in advance to anyone that can point me in the right direction for this issue.

I have an iPod touch (4th Gen) that has a completely blank (dark) screen. Connecting the device to my computer, I do hear the alert from the iPod to tell me a device is connected, and then iTunes notifies me it recognizes the iPod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored.

What I've tried:

  • Resetting. held sleep/wake and home button wile connected to power. nothing happens
  • Restoring in iTunes. Restore appears to complete. (no error messages)
  • DFU mode restore

As soon as restore completes, iTunes gives me the same message about detecting ipod in recovery mode.

Anything else I can try before cracking this thing open? Even then I still wouldn't know what to look for hardware-wise to fix.

If it in DFU mode then all you have to do is disconnect the iPod from your computer and press both the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button for 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears, then it should boot as normal.

If your ipod is in recovery mode you have no choice but to restore it. All the data on it is already lost if it is in recovery mode, you will have to restore it and when setting it up again at the end of the restore process your ipod will restart and you will have to set it up again as you did when it was new. In the process you will be given the option to restore it from and iTunes or iCloud backup. If you have been backing up to iCloud choose that (be sure to plug your ipod in to a wall charger as this will take hours to complete). If you haven't been backing up to iCloud choose restore from iTunes backup, then restore from the backup you created the last time you synced your

ipod. If it won't restore in recovery mode by connecting it to iTunes you will have to try putting it in DFU mode to restore it, as described here: http://www.ipadconverter-mac.com/ipod-to...

DFU mode stands for DeviceFirmwareUpgrade.

1. Turn off your iPod touch.

2. Connect your iPod to the computer.

3. Hold the power and home button, when the Apple logo pops up stop holding the power button but still hold the home button.

4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.
