clicking sound, loud fan, red light in audio jack...?
Several months ago I replaced a broken keyboard, added RAM, replaced the battery (it was dying...), and installed a new 750GB hard drive into my older MBP. All was well until very recently. The machine started making this weird clicking noise periodically, and the fan would come on very loudly much too often and, I thought, much too loudly. I searched this wonderful forum and found that the clicking noise might have something to do with the Sudden Motion Sensor and I followed the directions to deactivate the SMS. It appeared to fix the problem, until a few days ago. The noise is back, and now, I also get intermittent audio issues; the headphone jack glows red and my audio disappears. I've read about the various fixes for that, but it's not working. Can anyone help, please? I'd hate to go buy a new machine right now. Thanks for your help...

Can you give us the last four digits of your serial number so we can identify which model you have. In addition you have a few different things here: an audio problem with the headphone jack and a loud fan issue. which do you want to address first?

Last four digits of serial number: PW0J. I was sort of wondering if all the problems are somehow related, since they all began at the same time and might somehow be connected to the installation of the new hard drive/keyboard/battery/ram. Although for the life of me , I can't see how all that is connected. In order of importance (to me, anyway...): clicking, red light, fan noise. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. The hard drive is brand new, but I suppose it could be bad, right? I've been jiggling pen inserts into the audio jack and the red light seems to have corrected itself. I'll keep my ears open for more clicking sounds. I've been thinking about replacing the machine or parting it out. Thanks again...
