Dee, there are quite a few wires inside a dishwasher, so it's hard for us to guess which one you're talking about. Can you add a picture of the wire you're talking about and maybe tell us a little about any other wires you've been working with? This guide will show you how to add an image to your question.
If you check behind the kick plate, many manufacturers include a service sheet about the dishwasher. If you can find a wiring diagram, it will have the wire colors listed, and from that you may be able to tell what that wire is for.
Please confirm the full model number of the dishwasher?
These are the only models that I can find, beginning with MDB4949SK__, (as can be seen on this link) and the model number that you posted isn't listed.
It helps to know the correct model as they may not all be exactly the same as to how they're wired.
Okay, Dee, I think I have an answer for you. That answer is, you don't plug that into anything. Turns out it's a diagnostic port that Maytag technicians can use to plug in something called a Whirlpool Service Tool.
I located the technical manual for your dishwasher and uploaded it here.
If you go to Page 39 on the PDF reader (page numbered 3-3 in the manual), you'll find a picture of something called a WIN port, which is what a tech plugs their service tool into. So in normal usage, that plug is not used; in fact, I imagine the vast majority of them never get used unless the dishwasher is serviced by an authorized Maytag/Whirlpool appliance technician.
Anyway, the long and short of it is, ignore that plug and go on ahead with what you were doing.
Update (07/04/26)
If I'm not mistaken, from the picture in the manual it looks like there's a cutout in the frame where the plug mounts when it's not in use. Check around the area where the plug naturally wants to reach to; it should reach there easily without pulling it tight, but shouldn't be so far that there's an excessive amount of slack in the wire.
