This is not a job that a non-mechanic would attempt to start. I called a local auto center and I was told that the job takes a mechanic 2 1/2 hours to complete (that means it would take me at least 4 hours and the possibility of breaking or messing something up as I fumble about) and the bill would be $175 + Coolant.

David Hodson is absolutely right. I thought I just add to it. Follow the upper radiator hose toward the engine block, it should be on the right hand side. There is an adapter that houses the thermostat remove that to get to the thermostat. All of it is difficult to get to and a time consuming job. Here is what the manual says on the how-to:

Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly.

Drain the coolant until the coolant level is below the thermostat.

Remove the crossover exhaust pipe.

Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.

Remove the thermostat housing bolts and clean any sealer from the bolt threads.

Remove the thermostat housing and gasket.

Remove the thermostat.

Clean the mating surfaces.

To install:

Install the thermostat.

Install the thermostat housing and gasket.

NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten them to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

Install the radiator hose to the thermostat housing.

Install the crossover exhaust pipe.

Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.

Fill the cooling system.

Follow one of the radiator hoses from the radiator towards the engine. The end of the hose should connect to a metal housing attached to the engine by two mounting bolts. Ta da! There's your thermostat housing. The thermostat itself is inside that housing, attached to the engine.
