My radio shorts out idk

So im bought a used 2015 jeep patriot and the radio sorta works the volume doesn’t go up but goes down, but then if I switch it to aux or disk I can turn it up, but even though I don’t get anything from the radio, even if the volume is on, but then when it’s on aux or disc, it’ll play for me four seconds and then it’ll short out and you can hear it in the speakers makes almost like a click sound and it stops for a second or two and then it starts back up, starts playing music then shorts out again and I don’t know what the problem is as I’m a sort of new car owner. It’s my first car and i dont know if i should take it in or replace the radio.
