Repair and disassembly information for the fifth-generation 12.9" iPad Pro featuring Apple's M1 SoC and an XDR mini-LED display.

IPad Pro 12.9 (2021) is bent on one site

Hello,

My iPad is slightly bent on one side of the screen, but everything still works fine.
Is there a safe way to straighten it without risking any damage?

Thank you very much!

Update (10/30/25)

Hello, I put too much pressure on it — my own fault....

How did it bend? Often a failing battery can cause the case to distort.

Take a straight edge ruler placed on the screen where it's bent as well as across the case back. Also note if the display glass is correctly seated in the case. Take some pictures so we can see the issue posting them here so we can see.

Well it could be worse! The display has become unglued from the case which likely saved the screen. Even still this is not an easy fix given how badly the case is bent. I would carefully remove the display fully cleaning off the old adhesive from the frame so you can then re-attach it. Follow this guide to take the screen off iPad Pro 12.9" 5e Gen Vervanging van het scherm and you will need iPad Pro 12.9" (2021) Adhesive Strips to reattach.

But before you start make sure you have a good backup of your data..

Now with the display removed and the battery disconnected using some blocks of hard wood and a medium weight hammer you should be able to slowly coax the frame back into shape. Go slow and don't over do any one area as you don't want a wavy frame either. You may want to practice with some aluminum sheet stock that's on the thick side.

Replace the custom cut adhesive strips that secure the front panel to the case compatible with a 5th generation 12.9" iPad Pro tablet models A2378, A2379, A2461, and A2462. Afbeelding

First of all thank you very much for the reply :)

But are you sure that the display has become unglued? I have a screen protector on my display. Maybe you mixed that.

Is it also an option to put the iPad flat an a table and apply force via books etc.? Is there a high risk when doing it slow?

@nilsboehm The biggest consideration here is that glass doesn't bend nearly as well as aluminum, and you take a huge risk of breaking the screen and/or digitizer when attempting to straighten the frame. I would strongly suggest following @danj's advice to remove the screen before attempting it. I did this on my daughter-in-law's iPad mini and it worked perfectly; I got the frame straightened and replaced the screen and it looks great.
