My screen lights up but can't see any menu or words at all

First, try to reset it with select (center) and menu buttons for 10 seconds.
If this doesn't work, you'll probably need to replace the LCD screen. Did you get it wet at all? Sometimes this will cause the screen to go white, but if that is the case, then more of the iPod might be bad from corrosion and such.
