Repair guides and support for top and front loading Whirlpool brand washers.

Whirlpool 1cwtw4845ew1 toploader engaging lid lock non-stop

Whirlpool washing machine 1cwtw4845ew1 was in the middle of the washing cycle when it started engaging and disengaging the lid lock randomly, and now it won't do anything else anymore. Tried reset as per a Youttube video, but the lid lock keeps on clicking non-stop when the machine is plugged in.

Thank you so much! I followed the steps on the tech guide and now everything works just fine! I believe this was a software error as I did the manual check for lid lock once, it reported no errors but after that everything worked as usual.

The strangest thing, it was fine for a couple of days, now does the same. I will do the rest of the tests at page 18 if it continues, but I'm fearing the control board might be going bad?

Run the complete diagnostics test just to make sure that it isn't something else that is causing the problem and a clicking lid lock is just the symptom that's showing

Hi @josh2203

Here's the tech sheet for the washer.

Go to p.18 Test #8: Lid Lock to see how to test if it is OK or not.

If you find the problem and it's a faulty part that needs replacing, here's the parts list that is useful.

Locate the wanted part in the list and note the manufacturer's part number that is shown with it. Search online for the manufacturer's part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

If you search on YouTube for (insert wanted part number) replacement, sometime if you're lucky you'll find videos that show how to remove/replace the part.
