Can a li-on battery explode if you short circuit it accidentally?
I plan on repairing this phone's battery by soldering on a new one but I got afraid after reading that lithium ion batteries can explode when they are shorted?
My questions are simple:
will the li-on battery i bought on ebay have a protection on it?
Ipod variant:

will it give a huge harmfull explosion or what happens with a 1400 Mah battery when it is shorted?
will you notice something like this instantly or can it happen later when I have it in my pocket?
I have repaired the screen of another iphone 2g but this weekend I plan on fixing an Ipod and iphone 2g from myself and from a friend. I just read about this.
thank you for the advise!

I just read that there are many cases of exploding batteries... I am now afraid that my other iphone 2g will catch fire... I just replaced the screen yesterday and during the battery removal it got some minor dents and small disformations(nothing really serious..i think/hope)
