replacing battery, bottom logic board overheats

I have a ipod touch 4 that has a dead battery.

I tried to replace the battery and made sure that the contacts are not bridging... however once I solder the +, ground and negative contacts the board starts to get really hot! i immediately de-solder the battery.

Is the battery bad?

What would cause the board to heat up? thank you.

tony tony, definitely check on your soldering. It does sound like you are short circuiting something. If your work is done properly , I would suspect you have a battery with a short circuit. Replace it and see if it makes a difference.
