iPhone 4 proximity sensor not working?

Hey guys, I have an iPhone 4 and its power button was unresponsive and was not returning to it's standard position so I ordered the a new button and power sensor flex. However, after replacing the flex after noticing the silver nub button for the power switch was broken I just replaced the flex. no I am finding that the proximity sensor is just plain not working i can not see any discernible damage to the flex itself and am wondering is it worth trying a new flex or something else what am I doing wrong?

Shane,

I have same issue. Just ordered sticker on ebay. can you please tell me how did you install that sticker foam. just want to make sure i don't need to open front glass panel. can I just take the power flex cable out and put sticker and install it back? Thanks.

Thanks Craig, I will do that but just wondering, I didn't open the front panel during power flex cable replacement, so how I am missing the part that is only accessible from front side. Thanks

If it is a black screen did you move the poriximity UV sticker with foam over to the new flex cable? The sticker can be seen HERE

The sticker can be seen in the attached photo FITTED (the one on the left of the 2 holes in the picture).

Why this isn't mentioned in the iFixit power & sensor flex guide i don't know?!

I did not notice any black foam on the old flex and sadly and unable to check as the old flex has since been disposed of I did however, try the commonly discussed electrical tape trick to no avail

I do see what you mean it's clearer in this image http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/TjeSP... and yes it should be mentions I shall order that component and update on how it goes

Ok cool. There's actually 2 parts to it - the black foam and the sticker itself. It's best to remove the screen to fit it aswell. Look forward to hearing how it goes :)

You will have to remove the front screen to get to the area where the sticker and foam go. The sensor can let to much light in from the backlight and cause this if the new sensor is not sealed down very well. It is not always the outside light causing this. Make sure it is plugged in good as well. You are very welcome for any info I can give.

Had the same problem after replacing a power button, proximity sensor teather cable. I fixed it using a UV filter/foam part that I got on ebay. I paid about $3.50 for ten of them. You need to take the screen off and place one in the square hole that the proximity sensor goues in, then put the phone back together.

I believe it is best to take the screen off when replacing the power button cable. If you don't remove the LCD screen, the LCD cables are in the way of the power button, and you have to hold them down while replacing the tether, which makes it easy to damage the cables.

It's only about ten more screws to take the screen off.
