Apple's top-of-the-line smartphone for 2020. Announced on October 13th and released November 13th, the iPhone 12 Pro Max sports a 6.7" OLED display, a triple rear camera system with LiDAR, and 5G connectivity. Successor to the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

your instructions for repair of my iPhone 12 Pro Max don't match what

I have my phone apart as instructed but I'm not seeing what you show inside. There is only one cable from the display to the phone, not two. There's a thin stainless layer between the display and the phone that's not shown and it covers (among other things) a loudspeaker screw making it inaccessible. There is too much here that is hidden to wing it and try to take the battery out (which I am replacing with one from you) and I also need the phone to be working! I was not expecting your instructions not to match what I'm seeing! I hope you can respond fast so I can get this done and have my phone back!

I am also having trouble removing adhesive remnants from both the screen and the phone body. isopropyl alcohol doesn't touch it!

I have removed and replaced the battery but I want to know about the discrepancy between the described innards and those shown in your instructions. Close to the screen connector there is a copper foil tab that was attached (welded?) to the stainless screen backing along the edge. How is that supposed to be securely reconnected? is it just a ground? does it not need s solid electrical connection? And there's a little ss tab from the ss around the speaker grill that appears to engage by pressure to a matching point next to the speaker, but that also looks like it was torn away rather than connected by pressure.

As Alisha has stated, you've managed to separate the screen's frame from the screen rather than the phone's midframe. For some reason we've been seeing this more and more lately, especially on later model phones like yours. Rather than repeat everything I said in another recent answer, I'll just refer you to it.

That also explains why the adhesive you're trying to clean isn't coming off like it should; you're cleaning glue that you shouldn't even have seen if the screen had come off like it's supposed to.

Thanks Jerry and Alisha! I just now saw your responses. I continued working on the phone last night and was able to remove and replace the battery and when plugged in the phone chimes as it should. I reconnected the screen but was unable to get any response from it.

I have a picture of the open phone taken with Photobooth but can't find a way to share it here! It doesn't even show up in Photos and attempts to copy and paste it aren't working! Looking at the screen back it looks like the whole thing is behind a ss layer which is i turn largely covered by a thin black film. Should that entire ss layer come away from the screen? I am unhappy that I see no activity on the screen when I try to turn the phone on. It appears to be plugged in correctly though I haven't re-installed the cover that goes over the connector.

I really need this phone back! I hope you can help me get there!

(I am 84 and have spent my life making things work. I'm very careful and also familiar with working on things like this.)

Well, here's more. I do hope this gets to you! When I hit the power button a pair of green lines appear on the lower left side of the screen They go away after a bit but I noticed they did that slowly and more weakly as time passed suggesting that the battery was running out. It's plugged in now and the green lines aren't there. Waiting.

My phone rang a few minutes ago before I plugged it in but there was no way to answer it.

If you can see this and ignore the reflections you'll see the lines on the lower left side of the screen. That's all I see but there is some response to touch.

This sounds like the frame/backplate for the display came away from the display panel. The adhesive on these is really strong so it doesn’t surprise me.

You may need some more heat get the frame out, but it’s mostly stuck down with adhesive and some clips in the rest of the housing. You hould be able to use a spudger, or an iSesamo (something of that sort) to get the frame out and then it should look more like the guide :)
