Down on the d-pad will not work. I have tried cleaning the contacts with alcohol and everything, and even got a new button kit (including the rubber things underneath the buttons that touch the contacts) and I still have the same problem.

I had no idea what could cause your issue. So I turned to reddit. One user said:
"You might want to inspect the motherboard under magnification. Micro cracks may have appeared across the button traces. It's ironically caused by pressing too hard. They can be fixed by bridging the traces with solder and some fine wire."
