Xbox one won’t start up

Hi everyone

I’m new to electronics repair as a hobby and I’m trying to learn as I go.

I’m currently trying to fix an Xbox one (1540).

When I plug the power in the power brick light goes white for about 4 seconds then goes back to orange then it goes white again for 4 seconds and back to orange .It does this 4 times then stops at orange.

As if it’s cycling the power somehow.

I’m getting all 3.3,1.8 and 5v and I get 12v whilst the power brick is cycling.

Has anyone got any clues to where I should be looking on the board for faults as nothing is standing out.

Would injecting voltage help me identify an issue?

If so where?

The cpu gets warm whilst cycling but nothing else.

Could the cpu be toast?

I’ve stripped the board of drive, hdd and fan to see if it’s any of those components that are causing the issue but still doing it.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Ryan.

Hi Ryan!

So, the original problem is that Xbox One did not want to turn on at all?

Did you tried another power block first? I would do this first. Also check the front panel ribbon cable as well, maybe this one is broken and prevent it from turning on.

If all of them are fine, and it’s actually the motherboard, check the capacitors!

Hi,Thanks for replying

I've tried another power block.

Its cycling the power as soon as i put the plug into the back of the consoles so i know its not the ribbon cable (i've stripped the board out of the console).

No problem!

Alright, it is normal that the block is orange, and turns to white when you plug it in. Then it will turn to orange again. Then turn on the Xbox and it should turn to white again and stays white as long as the Xbox is on. If your Xbox didn’t turn on, then it’s most likely something on the motherboard (capacitors).

If the board looks clean and there’s nothing clogging cooling , try replacing/ testing this. https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/onse...

It could likely be a false overheating signal.

@basementdax where on the board is this compoent located? Why this component? what does it do?

@oldturkey03 On the motherboard in one corner there are 3 caps in a line the chip is near that , is labelled U6f1 on the board .

When it fails it gives a false overheating signal and the light code mentioned above.

It’s basically a temperature sensor. If the PSU is testing good . This could well be the culprit.

Also worth checking/changing those 3 caps too or first. I guess 🤷‍♂️

Thank you for this information.

The board I’m working on doesn’t look like this

I’m working on an Xbox one 1540 model

Will this component be in that board?
