Why my 3DS XL’s device boots but there’s nothing on the screens?

Hello everyone!

I bought a 3DS XL for spare parts, as well as the parts to replace all the defective ones on the console. I reassembled the console and when starting it is backlit on its two black screens, the blue light is on and stays on, the wifi light is on too and above all: the sound clearly indicates the menu in the background waiting for me to launch a game, the touchscreen and the control buttons all seem to work given the noise produced.

So I don't know where the problem comes from, if it is a hardware problem (replace the lower LCD screen which is original? or something else) or it is directly at the software level (I have no information if the console was hacked or something else).

Do you have any ideas knowing all this information?

Hi Anthony!

This most of the time indicates that there is something not connected properly. As you do have sound, please check the upper and lower screen ribbon cables. Check also the other cables to see if everything is connected properly.

If everything is connected properly, then you do need to replace the upper or lower screen and see if that fixes it!

Hi koppie ! Sorry for my late reply, I was waiting my new lower screen to replace the old one. I checked all the screen ribbons cables and they are still intact. I don’t think it’s necessary to replace the upper screen because it’s also a new piece. Everything seems to be plugged as it should be but maybe there is a just way to plug the whole ribbons cables ? Mine are plugged as the golden face on the top but maybe the correct way is to turn on the other side?

Also I’m waiting for a new battery but I don’t really think it’s a problem from the actual one..

Hi Anthony!

No, the golden side need to be below. At this moment it's plugged in upside down, so this need to be changed so that it's plugged in correctly! Golden plated site need to be below. Brown flap need to be up. I think this is the case why it isn't working at the moment! Please change this. If possible, please share some photo's with us or a video! Thanks :)!

Alright ! I always thought it was the golden side on the top as the large ribbon from the lower screen (this one can’t be returned on the other side). So I switched the upper ribbon with brown face below but actually I’ve got a new problem: the device can’t be booted, so I’m waiting for the battery to verify that..

It’s a case of patience I guess.. (sorry I forgot to take picture 😅)

Hi again could you specify to me which ribbons especially needs to be plugged with the golden face below please ? Since I have switched the side of upper screen ribbon and and sound ribbon my device don’t want to be booted. I think there was a short circuit maybe from this..
