External Speaker not working properly

Alright so the speaker that I have in my iPhone 3G does not work. I've noticed the following;

- Doesn't work in iPod.app

- Doesn't work in youTube.app

- Doesn't make system noises

- Doesn't make clicking noises

- If I make a voice memo and unhighlight the Speaker option then I can hear it via the speaker that goes near my ear

- If I press Speaker option in call the sound doesn't play

- When I call someone and put the phone up to my ear, the screen doesn't fade out with the proximity sensor.

- I have tried plugging a pair of headphones in and out a lot and that didn't fix my problem either.

- I looked at my dock connector and unplugged '4' and plugged it back in, but noticed that I don't have a '7' connector, why is this?
