My Macpro won't boot up after the chime

When I press the start button, the computer starts the boot process until the chime. After that it goes on ringing the chime again and again.

You've tried a SafeBoot and a boot to a CD/DVD?

door

Thanks machead3,

Yes, I tried a safe boot by pressing the shift key while starting. I can't try a boot to a CD/DVD because I can't even open the CD tray, even by pressing down the mouse button.

door

Try holding down the option key it may open the drive door so you can insert the disk. If you have a bootable timemachine, or other Mac (in target mode) you could try connecting that.

door

No, I'm sorry. It still doesn't open. What dos il mean "connect in target mode?

door

Starting a mac in Target Mode means it's like an external/portable disk drive with a System installed on it, so it will boot another Mac. Of course the Mac your using would have to be an Intel Model.

Thanks everybody!

I finally brought my MacPro to the Apple store because I couldn't wait any longer. Too much jobs to finish! And the answer came: It was the graphic card. So they change it and my mac works now as a new one. The end.

Nice week-end to you all!

Pierre

Depending upon when this started there's a high probability of failing/failed a disk problem, or a corrupt version of the OS. So you should see if you can boot from your installer dvd/external OS (a failure doing this probably does mean a hardware problem) and run disk utility to repair the boot drive.

do you have OS Lion installed?

try holding down the option key after the macpro boots up and your screen turn on before the apple logo pops up. if you succeed, you'll get an option of choosing your Mac HD or Recovery HD.

IF you can get to that, it's OS corruption so you can go through the Utilities in Recovery side of your HD.

IF you can't get to where you get the option to choose which HD to boot from, it's probably your HD hardware. Then you may have to install OS on other HD then try to transfer files from the old one if you're lucky enough to get access to it.

good luck

Thank you Ishii106.

Yes, I've Mac OS Lion installed. The problem is that the booting process is not going far enough and the video card doesn't start. Holding any key is not working too. How can I install the OS on an other harddrive if the computer doesn't boot up?

I miss read your post. The indicator for your issue is the multiple chimes and not loading. Which means you have failing RAM or RAM board. If you have few RAM installed in it, put one at a time and boot. IF it boots, you found working RAM. When it doesn't boot with any of the RAM installed, you may have dead RAM or you have dead RAM board.

Good luck
