Has white screen, but works OK on external monitor, what's wrong?

Had this issue recently on my 2011 MacBook Pro 15" laptop, screen lights up, but just a white screen, get it connected with external monitor through thunderbolt port, everything shows correctly on the external monitor, but the built in screen still remains white. Thought it might be the video cable between screen and logic board, connection looks good. So, what could be wrong here?

Thanks,

Sadly the display assembly has failed. There is a small circuit board within it which we call a T-CON. This is not replaceable as it’s part of the LCD panel.

Here’s the needed part 2011 15” MacBook displays and here’s the guide to replace it MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011 Display Replacement

@danj - Hi Dan, so, if the T-Con failed, the screen itself can still be light up? I thought it will be in black screen in this case.

Thanks,

@lovecd - A white screen is the backlight shining through. The video signal is allowing the light to pass

A black screen could be a dead backlight or the video signal is not letting the light to pass.

LCD screens use a liquid crystal material to flex the light passing through. The concept is where light is combed so the waves are in one direction (polarized) then the other side of the panel the polarization is 90 degrees so the light cant get through, but when the crystals are activated the light is twisted so it can the pass.
