High speed fans after SSD replacement

I have just finished an SSD replacement on this iMac, using the temperature sensor sold on this site to replace the hard drive temperature cable, but the iMac is still running the fans at full speed. I have tried inverting the cable on the motherboard both ways. Could I have received a defective sample?

It would be helpful to have a picture of the in-line temperature sensor so we can see how it is installed in the system. Note that the sticky part of the temp sensor needs to be applied to the surface of the SSD, and the two other parts of the cable need to be installed correctly. Assuming the component is installed correctly, you should use a software tool to try to pin down what is causing the fan spin up. You could also check Activity Monitor to see if there are any processes which are overworking the CPU or the disk. Once you've ruled out other causes using software tools, then then you can be more confident that there is an issue with the temp sensor. Good luck!

Sorry for the late response, I've been busy lately so I will try opening it again to take pictures another time. I did expose the sticky surface of the sensor and mounted it onto the metal of the SSD body near the SATA power connector. I performed a fresh installation of macOS on the computer so background processes should be no concern, but the fans were ramping up even before any operating system was installed. The hard drive upgradation guide warns that the fans ramp up if the sensor cable is not plugged in, which is my only basis on assuming that the sensor is not working properly. Once I open the iMac again, I will try to plug in the old hard drive to ensure the fans are not ramping up for an issue elsewhere in the system. Thank you for the reply, and I hope to bring more info soon!
