My phone won't switch on anymore

Hi,

My phone just switched off, even though it still had about 50% battery left.

It won't charge any more either.

I tried several chargers that worked with it and that currently work with other phones as well.

I dismantled it and rebuilt it, twice. It still won't turn on or charge.

Do you have any idea about what I should do next?

Thank you!

Ludovic

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I'll try that first and hopefully this will do the trick.

I was just wondering if this was normal after only three years of the phone being in use...

I'll order it and will message here whatever happens!

Have a nice day,

Ludovic

Hi,

I got the battery.

The phone does not switch on and it does not react when it's plugged.

Any other idea anyone?

Thank you.

@ludovicmar34246 then you might need to try the charging port.

Hi,

Thanks again for your help.

I will try that and the other modules before giving up. I think the screen costs a bit too much to be swapped though, but I'll see what can be done...

Have a nice day!

@ludovicmar34246 if it was the screen, you would be able to hear the start sound and the phone vibrate.

Hi everyone,

I got the phone back... and I still have not put my sim cards in it. I switched it on to see if it worked and that's all.

The workshop did not disclose anything regarding what could have caused the phone to malfunction in the first place. The report says they had to change some parts on the motherboard. I sent them a message via their website, but I did not get any additional comment, actually they did not even reply.

So, in the end, I cannot even say anything more beside the fact that this was not a "structural damage", otherwise they would have refused to fix it for free. Therefore, the issue resulted from a hardware or software issue independent from my use, and could potentially happen to any other user...

My impression is that phones will always remain black boxes, because there is absolutely nothing common people can do about them when they stop functioning after their warranty period is over.

As far as I am concerned, I will just wait that I have a massive issue with my current phone to use this fairphone again. I am still very much disappointed with my experience and totally disillusioned with the great promises of that company.

Thank you for following that thread and good luck with your phone... that's all we can hope to have.

Best wishes,

Ludovic

Hi,

I swapped the upper modules, just to be sure to have covered everything. Nothing changed.

The only offers I have seen on ebay talk about the same issues as mine:

-first, charging problems

-then, phone failure.

So, since Fairphone has refunded my module purchases, I'll get a screen module and see if I can test it within 14 days. If it works, great, if not, I'll return it.

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks a lot for your support in any case!

Hi,

I suppose I am near the end of this story...

I ordered a display module and installed it. The phone still refused to work, charge or to show any signs of any activity.

I contacted fairphone and they will "exceptionally" repair it for free. However, they said that they will wipe my data and that if they find structural damage, I would have to pay for the repairs.

Overall, a complete waste of time, energy, and resources. If the phone is fixed for free I'll take it, but I don't think I'll ever trust it to work enough to be anything else than an emergency device.

Thank you for your support. I think I'll close that thread when I get the workshop's report on the fixing process.

Best wishes,

Ludovic

@ludovicmar34246 I had a very similar situation in 2021. Phone was a brick, sent back, they found some problem on motherboard and gave me a new phone. No way my data could be recovered from the old phone either.

Seems unfortunate and I agree with you that it's still a black box, and one that seems to stop working suddenly.
