Why is my sound gone?

Problem: The sound on my iphone 3gs comes and goes(speakers and microphone), and when it is working, it sounds like the speakers are blasted(fuzzy sound) When there is no sound, it is no sound from any speakers, and the microphone does not seem to work(voice-record). tried pressing under the phone, and could manage to get normal sound a couple of times, but are afraid of destroying something...

I have tried to take it apart and clean everything. I discovered that the dock-part has scratches/marks on the back (under), looks like it is from dust.. also tried replacing headphone jack from an old iphone 3G. what could be the problem here? logic board? dock connector? thanks for any answer!!

Update to this question; The sound comes back (still fuzzy) if I put it in the freezer for a while, same thing with the oven:) It disappears again if I put gentle pressure on the upper left of the phone, somewhere around connector 5!

Any idea of how to fix this?

ummm. At first I'd think it's a connector problem..metal contracting and making a better connection? does the new headphone jack work? does the 3g jack work?

Hi! Yes it works, if i plug a headset to it the sound is normal, but only when the sound is back (fuzzy back :))... I thought of the same as you do! is there any metal parts that "connects" beside the regular connectors? I discovered that if I squeeze the upper left corner with my thumb, the sound disappears again..

I saw that it is a metal point on top of the headphone-jack, could it be something there?

Thanx
