what's that piece? (picture inside)

hey guys,

i replaced my dispay and when i removed the vibrator this thing suddenly popped out. it feels like rubber. i got no idea where its coming from. but everything works finde, except for the light sensor! (display doesnt turn black when i call someone)

any ideas? thanks in advance! heres the picture:

That part is the rubber bumper that fits on the top edge of the logic board. It goes under the two front screen flex cables as they bend around (over) the top of the logic board. It is not a critical component for the iPhone to function. It is not the reason for the Proximity Sensor failure. That is due to bad front screen glass or due to not separating sensor in/out beams correctly. When you decide to correct the sensor problem, you can easily replace the rubber bumper.

thanks a lot! but what exactly do you mean by "separating sensor in/out beam" ?

the sensor needs to be able to sense when you have the glass to your face or not. Some screens have no way of separating in or out beams..this can be fixed with a piece of tape with holes cut in it placed over the glass in the area where the sensors are...
