Hi,

Does the laptop show that the battery is charging when just the charger is connected?

If it doesn't check that the charger is OK i.e. 19.5V DC at the output plug of the charger, and if that is OK check that the DC-In jack (supplier example only) on the laptop is OK and that power is getting to the motherboard. If the jack is faulty, search online for 858021-001 to find suppliers that suit you best.

If it does try a full power refresh in case it is a corrupted BIOS and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

a). Disconnect the charger from the laptop if connected.

b). Disconnect the main battery from the motherboard.

c). Remove the RTC battery from the motherboard.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide taken from this support webpage for the laptop. Go to p.38 and then to p.58 to view the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery respectively. Unfortunately with your model you will have to remove the motherboard to access the RTC battery.

When the battery is removed measure its voltage. If it is <2.6V DC replace it. The part number is 741976-001 . If you search online using the part number only, you will find suppliers of the part. Although it looks like a common CR2032 Lithium coin cell battery which is available most everywhere e.g. supermarkets.

d.) Reinsert the RTC battery (or its replacement). (+ve on top as marked on the battery)

e). Reverse the above steps to re-assemble the laptop.

f.) When the laptop is completely re-assembled, connect the charger and try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts OK there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been completely reset back to its default settings. Once the date and time have been adjusted the message won’t appear the next time that the laptop is started.

If you had previously changed any user defined settings in BIOS to suit whatever specific hardware configuration that you had for the laptop, then these will have to be set again.

So there is a small issue with this i can't really remove the motherboard due to a lot of screws that seem completely stuck no matter how hard i push on the screwdriver I've stripped them more than actually unscrewed them

How could I go about solving the stripped part

@hickensa

You could try using a screw extractor (example only) or a set of screw extracting pliers (example only)

To get replacement screws search online for 856752-001 to find suppliers that suit you best.

This is the HP part number for the screw kit for the HP 15-bc400 series laptops (as well as for a lot of other models as well)
