No trackpad and keyboard intermittent.

I purchased the fixit battery upgrade and went through the entire process to replace the battery. I thought it went well but once back together and turned on the keyboard is funky. It takes 3-4 presses of each key to register. The trackpad is completely unresponsive. Overall the machine is extremely slow now. I took it back apart and unseated/reseated every connection 3 times. (all the steps except removing the battery again).

It charges okay and the USB ports and wireless work. I am currently using an external keyboard and mouse.

I have also reset the PRAM. Not sure what else to do. What would affect both the trackpad and keyboard? Thanks. -Derryl

I would run the onboard diagnostics to try to focus the problem down. The battery sits on top of the keyboard and trackpad cables. Could you have nicked either one?

The slowness is expected when one of the SMC sensors has failed to communicate to the SMC logic. Your system is in CPU safe mode, the CPUs clocking is lowered and the fans will ramp up.

What happens when you use an external keyboard and mouse? If it’s stable then that aims us back to the cables and the connections to the logic board.

To get to diagnostics, restart and press the D key.

Thanks, I don't remember seeing the cables running under the battery area. I tried running the diagnostics but I get an error right away. "Cannot Load 'EFI/TestSupport.efi'"

@drice46660 - Apple messed up the diags with the newer macOSs! The next best thing is downloading this great app which with the full version you get some useful diagnostics TG Pro

Sadly, Apple won’t help you in even just figuring out what’s wrong!

The surface of your trackpad might need cleaning. A software bug could be preventing your trackpad from working properly. Your trackpad may have lost contact and now requires a reset. Your Mac's battery may need to be serviced or replaced.
