No display images. After shutdown, opening display starts system up.

Had earlier post that display not working but external to another monitor works fine. Moving the display causes a popup asking to shut down and have to hit cancel to keep using the computer. Also occasionally when moving the display the computer shuts down without warning. Now have noticed that after shutting down the system and later close the top then reopen the top the computer starts up on its own. When it it working all functions work just fine. Any ideas what is wrong?
