My monitor faded white after I hit my keyboard

after i lightly hit my keyboard multitle times on the left side of the space button for jokes, the monitor faded a little white as if someone put a white plastic paper over it.

i know the problem is not hardware as i have tested this in multiple ways, like booting in safe mode where the problem is gone.

i have tried recalibrating colours on the monitor and gpu drivers and i have also recalibrated the gamma in windows settings with nothing i did to a success. i have also reinstalled the gpu drivers, in case that was the problem, but no.

specs:

gpu: nvidia gtx1060

motherboard: asus prime Z270-K

cpu: intel i7-7700

ram: corsair vengeance lpx 2x8GB 3000MHz DDR4

boot drive: kingston SKC3000S1024G

the system is automaticly overclocked from bios.

Hi @mainn0606,

Can you try connecting another monitor (TV if a HDMI port) to the PC and check its display.

What is the make and model number of the motherboard and the GPU card?

By "hitting" the keyboard it could mean that something's loose and the vibration from the hitting action has disturbed something

Does the monitor show a "no signal" message as a white screen could be just the backlights are on in the monitor but usually for them to be on there also needs to be a video signal detected.

Is it a bright white colour or a dim white colour?

the white is quite noticable, and no it is not hardware problems as i have checked for that, the monitor is perfectly fine but its the pc that is giving wrong colours to the monitor like you would hold a transparent white sheet of plastic in front of the monitor. i have a gtx 1060 and motherboard im not too sure but i am 100% sure its not hardware problems

@mainn0606 connect your monitor to a different device and see if it displays properly.

i does display properly

@mainn0606

Did you connect the PC to a different monitor (TV if HDMI) as suggested, you didn't say?

if the display on the different monitor is OK then it is either the original monitor (resolution or contrast problems?) or the cable between the monitor and the PC

It could also be the GPU card so make sure that you use the same video port on the GPU card that was used to connect to the original monitor, when you go to connect to the new monitor.

The Intel i7 7700 CPU has integrated graphics capability.

Connect the monitor to the motherboard's HDMI port and use the Intel GPU and not the Nvidia GPU and check if the display is OK.

If it is then it's the Nvidia GPU card that is the problem

You may have to disable the Nvidia GPU in BIOS or remove the card from the motherboard when you try this

yep, you are correct, gpu is toast!

...unfortunatly for me

i guess the timing was just perfect with the keyboard-whacking

@jayeff

it turns out it was not the gpu after all, after getting a new gpu and getting the same problem after a while i now had the chance to try the 1060 in another computer and it was not the gpu, that means it would have to be the motherboard please correct me if it still could be something else

Hi @mainn0606

You originally said " is not hardware as i have tested this in multiple ways,..." but you never mentioned if you tried a different monitor or monitor cable, only ".....like booting in safe mode where the problem is gone.".

It still could be the monitor as it may not like higher resolution video after a while whereas safe mode is only 800 x 600.

If the monitor is on the same surface as the keyboard then when you whacked the keyboard something may have jarred in the monitor, who knows. You won't know unless you eliminate it from the list of possibilities
