How do I reattach the LCD display data cable after disconnecting it?

I followed the guide MacBook Unibody Model A1342 LCD Replacement and have successfully removed the screen, but now I am having trouble reconnecting the data display cable to put it all back together. The cable is so short that it makes it difficult to hold on to, and I'm afraid that if I hold on to the steel retaining clip (described in step 8 of the guide) and pull too hard it will break off. Any tips or tricks on getting it reconnected would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, I finally got it together. Unfortunately it must have been something other than the LCD that was the problem because the screen still won't turn on. I guess it was good that I learned how to get it back together because I'm sure I'll have to do it again sooner or later.

Thanks again for all the help!

Yes it's a little tricky to connect this cable and even if I work a lot on this A1342 model I must always pay attention to this connection step. The socket is very fragile and the connector must have exactly the right alignment before being inserted in the socket. What I do is putting on my frontal lamp to have a good area lightning then I use a magnifier in my left to have a close view of the socket. I then grab the connector by the steel retainer clip and align it with the socket but with a small angle (rear of the connector up and front down) then I apply a little force to see if it will enter in place. If not I redo the alignment and try again. The idea is not applying to much force to the connector when trying to insert it. Patience...that's all it takes. Good luck !!

When you align the lid back up, you should be able to flip one of those plastic pry tools upside down and use the edge to push it back down into place. Have someone hold the display for you -- less distraction if your not twisting your hands around struggling to hold everything together.
