How to keep umbrella open on manual spring operation.

Hi, I have a manual spring clasp that locks at the top and bottom of a standard long umbrella.

The top spring doesn’t hold the umbrella open. This single spring doesn’t hold its place and slides back down into its holding crevice when the umbrella is opened.

What can I do to repair (not replace) the single spring mechanism and keep my umbrella open?
