I made it my own way πŸ˜‚. Since those batteries are nowhere to be found in the entire world - nothing to mention my homeland Ukraine - and even if you find it in another country - delivery would cost almost as much as the battery and most countries would not be allowed to send batteries in here - I decided to just find a similar battery and make a new one πŸ™ŒπŸ».

The original battery is around 85 mm x 58 mm x 4 mm - and you should not go any bigger or especially thicker because it will put pressure onto the screen from behind - trust me, I tried 😝. And the original battery is 3.7V 1600 mAh.

I managed to find a new battery that has a little smaller footprint and has a capacity of 2100 mAh - definitely better than my 20+ years old battery anyway. Here they are next to my iPaq H3835 - the first one in the lineup that didn't even have bluetooth 😎:

So I just carefully desoldered an old battery from a BMS board and then soldered a new one instead.

Here it is connected to the device:

And the device successfully booted with a new battery

But there are a few more important things:

1) if your new battery is 4mm - try to put a battery management system PCB next to the battery and not on top of it to make the whole construction as thin as possible

2) battery terminals are way to flimsy and easy to break, but can be soldered no problem with a good flux

3) probably the most important: at first my new battery didnt want to charge and was not really recognized by the device:

So I had to open the device and connect it directly to the bench power supply set up at 5V 2A for like 5-10 minutes. After that I plugged it back into the device and it got immediately recognized:

Hope that helps many other retro gadget enthusiasts out there πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Hi @alexanderre

Searching for part # 233488-001 found this webpage which shows that it is suitable for a HP-3835. The part number is also shown down in the "Compatible with" section lower down on the page.

The part number of the battery on the above page i.e PDAB-263987-001 found lots of suppliers. Here is just one to give an idea of the cost. They also state that it is for a HP-3835.

Just some options to try.

Hi, thanks a lot for that πŸ™ I also found a list of probably similar batteries from different manufacturers, sadly I'am yet to find a seller who has them in stock, preferably in the US or Europe 😞

@alexanderre

The one I linked is in the USA and has it in stock according to the webpage.

managed to open it through vpn - won't load otherwise, thanks, will try ordering the battery there πŸ™

Did you order a battery? I am in need of one as well but wanted to see if you were able to get one. TY

Sorry for a late reply - nope, not yet, it's on hold for me as of now. Let me know if you've managed to get one. For me it's complicated because of batteries are not welcome for overseas shipping and I need it to fly to Ukraine

@oldturkey03 I have thought of that but I wasn’t sure if it was possible. The dimensions of the original battery are: 3.36 x 2.05 x 0.11

I am including a few pictures of the battery connector still connected to the motherboard of my PDA. If these pictures aren’t good enough let me know and I will remove the battery and take better pictures. Thanks!

@bobc90565 2 dead IPAQ's later and no change. Not giving up on things yet. No schematics, no diagrams makes things all the more difficult.

door

Thank you. I am not giving up either but have hit dead end after dead end.

I finally revived my Pocket PC and if anyone have valid replacement batteries anywhere in the US or Europe - please share, it’d be much appreciated
