A Asus Strix GTX1070 Ti has no fan movement and no display output.

Hi,

i got a Asus Strix GTX1070 Ti, and it has no Fan Movement and no Display output, when booting, also when i ran it on my mainboard grapic chip i could not see the GPU in windows 10 . The LEDs work fine. i thought. as i already watched plenty repair videos on YT and i think now i got a pretty good knowledge of what a GPU is and what to find on it.

As i opened the card on the side where the GPU sits i could not find any obvious problem but on the backside i found that on the plating where these two tiny LEDs sit is also a little flat Batterie Pack? and that one went bad and spilled all its nasty stuff out. so i washed it with wd-40 at this state i took the pictures.

Now i should probaply try finding if there is a short.i have a multimeter but im really overwhelmed and have no idea where to start measuring.

I really would appreciate some help.

Thanks <3

Some of those tracers seem damaged. I would first check continuity on these before anything else.

Hi @jereso ,

Did you use WD-40 or the WD-40 Specialist Contact cleaner?

Ordinary WD-40 is no good for cleaning electronic component pcb etc as it leaves conductive residues which may provide circuit paths between components that are not in the operating design of the device.

An electronic parts contact cleaner is formulated to leave no residues Basically it is 99%+ Isopropyl Alcohol. Leaves no residues and evaporates quickly. It is still conductive when wet, but not when it has evaporated, so it should not be applied when power is connected to a device

If you used ordinary WD-40 I suggest that you clean the board again with Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) or some WD-40 Specialist contact cleaner and then start looking for any problems.

Post some close up images of both sides of the board after it has been cleaned again. Here’s how to do this on ifixit Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag

Good afternoon Niklas,

Sounds to me like something has shorted on the PCB meaning that it has been powered on and something got too much voltage.

Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do about this card apart from maybe cleaning that part then buying a new component and soldering it back on but i think the main chip is toast.

However there is the posibility u can get this working if u try many different methods and plug this thing into power and find the shorts there
