iPhone 8 plus only works with original display

I have a very broken display. Only lines show up. I have now tried three different replacement displays and they are fully black. Nothing works. No hard reset nothing.

When I put the original display back on and do a hard reset it still shows the lines and lights come on.

I haven’t transferred true tone data, that is the only difference. I don’t have a prommer for that.

Further info. I can hard reset device into finder and do update/restore. But unable to find a working display for it. Connector pins look normal in all displays including the original and connectors are intact. I will do an update to the device and then see if nothing changes. Maybe mext move is to start reseating connectors 0,1 mm to another direction and see if there is a position where the display happens to work.

Have you tried using another OEM display, or just aftermarket displays?

door

Just aftermarket. I put the last display that didn’t work into another phone (7+) and it worked normally.

@teemupa There are two options I see for further troubleshooting: buy the JC V1S($130) to reprogram an aftermarket display(the JC V1S can also reprogram batteries) or get a used or broken iPhone 8 Plus with a working display ($72).

I guess I will search for a display then. This is a first.

Sounds like this is a connector problem. The connector is most likely stretched. This happens after too many attempts to connect screens or the main reason which is connecting a 7 series screen which defiantly stretches the connector.

Get a decent pair of tweezers and carefully make the connector a bit narrower. The connector on the logic board I am talking about.

I have tried many times with the connector and it does not solve the issue. I did read from somewhere that 8 plus has some HW sensing mechanism that it only allows certain amount of current to go to the backlight until it cuts off the current. Apparently the amount varies between different displays. Another change is that backlight resistor is on it’s way out and just works with the original display.

@teemupa Backlight resistors on the 8 series cannot be” on their way out” They are zero Ohm which means they are essentially a fuse, it is either good or faulty. You need to determine if you have an image problem or a backlight problem as they are two different circuits.
