EMC 2638 21.5” iMac 2.7 GHz Core i5 (2.7 GHz Core i5 (I5-4570R) only offers the intergraded graphics engine (Intel Iris Pro 5200)

EMC 2742 21.5” iMac 2.9 GHz Core i5 (I5-4570S) offers a dedicated GPU chip (AMD GeForce GT 750M) as well as the intergraded graphics engine (Intel HD Graphics 4600)

THANKS, I imagine that the most powerful is this (EMC 2742 21.5 ”iMac 2.9 GHz Core i5 (I5-4570S)?

of these 2 boards have the integrated processor? excuse my ignorance

@elcheca1 - The CPU is mounted on the logic board directly (Soldered) as you can see here in this teardown jumping to Step-4 iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2638 Teardown The Red outlined chip is the CPU.

the word "Integrated" is related to the graphics (video processing) As an example your iPhone has intergraded graphics as the device is quite small so the process load is small, here we are using that same concept for the IG model and for people would need a bit more graphics performance a dedicated (DG) setup is available. One could argue the Iris Pro 5200 engine is better than the older HD Graphics 4600, but in the scale of things not by much! The real benefit is the dedicated AMD GeForce GT 750M GPU.

The CPU's in both of these systems are very similar! The EMC 2638 is using a Haswell/Crystalwell whereas the 2742 is based on the older Haswell CPU architecture

Don't forget to score the answer and accept it - Thanks!
