Why are all DS titles not reading on my New Nintendo 2DS XL

For some unknown reason, when I try to open Ds games on my 3ds, they start normally, then after about two seconds, the software is closed and the system is put into sleep mode. This seems to only be a problem with my DS games (New Super Mario Bros, Pokemon Black) and not any of my actual 3ds games (Pokemon X, Super Smash Bros.) Does anyone have any suggestions?
