Alledgely the LCD Panel is shorted

I had warranty to come and look at my 58’’ TV UN58TU6900PXPA and they said they had to replace the LCD panel, however the replacement part is not available and they ended up refunding me for the device, but now I have a dead device on my house and I dont believe their diagnose.

The issue began with some strange horizontal lines on the top quarter of the screen, then the TV began to reboot itself, while showing still image.

Now its just rebooting and now showing anything, is there anything to be done?

When they took the back plate of the tv I saw the white part of the lcd panel blinking, and another technician told me the LCD Panel could be shorted, does this ring a bell to anyone?

Thanks.

The horizontal lines could be the fault of the LCD panel or the LCD panel. The rebooting could be the fault of the main board, power supply, or a short in the TV. I think it's likely that the LCD panel is the fault.

You can check if the power supply is faulty by checking if the voltages drop when the TV reboots.

@andrewsawesome Thank you, I wasn't expecting a reply. I'll see about checking the voltages

Nine times out of ten, any damage to a TV is going to be beyond the point of economic repair. As much as we all wish we could fix everything that breaks, the reality is that some things can’t be repaired. In this case, 58” LCD panels are very hard to come by and time consuming and tedious to install. I personally wouldn’t recommend trying to repair it unless you have no other options, but to each his own.
