The oven light still works when a selector knob is used, everything else is dead. Display is dead.

Any idea what to check? Thanks!

Is the oven taken apart?

door

@andrewsawesome Not yet! It belongs to the house we rent. I'm just trying to gauge whether it might be an easy/cheap fix, or need a professional, or replacement, before I contact the landlady.

@Glenn Mrosek To me it sounds like a power supply or fuse issue, but it's hard to know without having the oven open.

The thing is, the light still works, but nothing else. I was just hoping it would promt an easy "I know what that is" response, before I approach the landlady with an informed guess on whether it's worth risking a repair, or to go for a replacement. It's not a cheap oven. :-/

The TCO and elements all seem fine, though one of the plastic spade protectors is badly charred and melted. Gonna call the pro in for this.

Cheers!

Hi,

You need to check if there is supply voltage at the TCO and then at the control board as per the troubleshooting flowchart

Be safety aware if you try this as you are testing for lethal AC voltage. If you don’t know how to do this safely then don’t do it!

Given that it is in a rental property this should be the responsibility of the landlord, not yours. Contact them or their agent about the problem.

  • download / get the manual
  • start at the 120VAC power feed and find where the break is
  • All ovens have various thermal fuses to prevent fires.
  • Not uncommon to have a primary thermal fuse blow when self-cleaning, you don’t state what preceded the failure
  • when found, replace ONLY with direct factory part #
  • no mention of a power surge / lightning hit either
  • you want quality answers - provide complete data

I got the service manual, but the fault isn't covered in it. It's a UK 240VAC model.

I don't want to rip it apart without talking to the landlady first. I was hoping someone might recognise the symptoms and just know it's a PCB or fuse as pretty good guess, before I go digging.

Nothing preceeded the fault. It was fine last time it was used, and now it's not.
