Panasonic TV won’t respond (TH-42PZ80U)

My Panasonic TV will not turn on or respond at all. There are no lights or sounds when plugged in. I’ve tried holding the power, unplugging it for 30+mins, power + volume/menu/etc. Nothing, not even a light. It was working perfectly fine today and did not feel overly hot when it was turned off. The outlets are fine as well. I can’t hire a technician and I really don’t want to have to throw it out- please tell me if there’s anything else I can try first!!

Hi @km21 ,

Here’s an image of the No power troubleshooting flowchart, taken from the service manual for your model TV.

You will need to have a DMM (digital multimeter) and know how to use its Ohmmeter function so that you can check if all the fuses located on the P board, mentioned in the flowchart are OK or not. Do this with the AC power totally disconnected from the TV.

If you find a faulty fuse then you have to find out why it blew, because fuses don’t blow for no reason.

If all the fuses are OK then as the flowchart suggests you need to check the A board.

Initially check for any obvious signs of component damage e.g. heat stressed components or blown or bulging capacitors.

The service manual is quite good as it has the schematics for the boards which will help to find out what’s wrong.

If you don’t know how to test electronic components then you will either have to find someone who does or contact a reputable, professional TV repair service.
