Replaced logic board now left fan on full speed

Hey guys,

Replaced my logic board with the touch ID button as well which came with the board. Now my left fan is on full speed.

What I tried:

  • Reset SMC
  • Mac fan control (did not even change the sound or speed of the left fan, cranked up the right fan and I could hear it)
  • Opened the whole thing again checking for connections and making sure they were plugged in correctly and properly, everything was perfect. (Visually checked to see if the right fan is spin which it does)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Why did you replace the logic board?

I would run the onboard diagnostics to see what it shows. Restart your system and press the D key

Reference: Mac startup key combinations

Hey, thanks for replying.

I replaced it due to my old one died out of the blue and a friend had a broken screen mac sitting around same model.

I just ran the diagnostics and it came back saying:

There maybe be an issue with the fan.

Reference Code: PPF004

Additional Ref Code: PPF003

P.S I looked up the code and people are saying I should replace the fan, it was running fine before the board died so could it be something else? If I replace the fan and the problem is still there then what else can I do?

Likely the ribbon cable connection to the case needs to be checked, use a magnifier to inspect the ribbon contacts are not damaged. Also make sure to carefully lift the clamp bar to release the tension on the ribbon and make sure to fold it back down to set the clamp bar down when you’ve put the ribbon cable back in. Here’s a picture with the clamp in the up position.

I checked, all seems fine, I also just replaced the fan for a new one and the problem is still there.

@midge218 - The signals then find there way to the logic board via the MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Keyboard Cable Check both ends and the connector pins on the logic board one maybe damaged.
