Fans don't turn out since a power outage.

It’s actually a XFX Radeon RX 580 GTS XXX Edition, 8GB AMD Graphics Card (RX-580P8DFD6), but there was no option for that one. Surprisingly enough because it’s a pretty awesome card. At least better than the few shown in the options here, imho ;). Anyway, I digress. I had a power outage and when it came back on, the GPU apparently did not. The blue light on the card is lit telling me it has power, but the fans don’t spin and I have no display and the vga light is on on my AMD X470 Board, Ryzen 7 CPU, (no GPU on the CPU) :(. So I plugged in a cheap MSI GeForce GT 730 4 GB Video Card , which worked just fine. Of course there will be near NO gaming with that card. So I purchased a GTX 1050ti and that does the trick as well. Not nearly as good as my RX580 though. But those are going for around 750 right now! Crazy prices. The 1050ti was 350, still crazy. So I’m wondering if there’s anyway to actually get the one I have repaired? I wouldn’t have a clue as to why it just quit. Not even sure if maybe the PSU has just lost some juice (if that’s even possible) and it’s not the card at all. Are there reputable people out there that troubleshoot and repair video cards that won’t break the bank?

Thanks everyone!

Have a great day and never stop learning!

Beau.

Hi @beauknowsdiddly,

I don’t know either of the GPU cards but was searching online and found that the GT730 didn’t require extra power cables being connected to it as the PCI slot supplied enough power and that the RX580 did, but maybe I got that wrong.

If it doesn’t need the cables then perhaps you should try the paperclip test on the PSU to make sure that there is power on the cables that connect to the GPU card.

To me it seems strange that a power outage can affect the GPU card and nothing else considering that the surge would have to pass through the PSU to get there.

If I got the above all wrong then the schematics for the RX-580P8DFD6 card will have to be found (I couldn’t find them online) as unless there is obvious component damage on the card (and even then it will be hard to identify the value and possibly the type of component) they will be needed to find out what’s wrong and to fix it.

Yes the 580 does have an 8 pin power connector. The PSU seems to work just fine. The fan spins and it powers everything else up just fine.... I dunno, I'm thinkin' about just getting another card with an 8 pin connector.. Like the 1070 mini maybe.
