Battery not keeping charge after a year of use. Is this normal?

I bought a battery replacement for my older Mac 15” and after a little over a year of use I get a message saying “Battery Service Required”. The charge is not lasting very long. Is this normal? I would have expected quite a bit of a battery life how of this replacement…

Didn’t get a reply… update: I replaced the battery and found the previous one bulging. so definitely failing…
