Can I use a 2010 A1286 screen to replace defective screen?

A narrow vertical section of my girlfriends macbook screen is constantly static. I figure replacing the screen is the best bet. Logic board still spits out full graphics to an external monitor and all other quick fixes don’t work. Will a 2010 secondhand screen be compatible? I have read the answers to using a 2011 screen.

Sorry no, Apple made enough alterations to the display assembly so you are locked in with either a 2011 or 2012 display assembly. Just to complicate things even that has a minor issue! Apple changed the specs of the LVDS connector between the 2011 and 2012 systems! The connector fiberglass tang is ever so slightly wider on the 2011 cable so it won’t fit properly into the 2012 connector without being forced which can damage it if you don’t make this modification!

The system I’m banging on right now is a 2011 which I swapped over the logic board to a 2012 which is why I had to alter things. I’ve also done quite a few for others.

You also have a few more options! As you can use an anti-glare screen or hi-res gloss which where options for the 2011 not in the 2012 systems.
