I just got a MacBook Air 2015 and starting it up the screen flickers with varying degrees of brightness but after letting it sit for 2 minutes the flicking is gone and the screen is fine (moving the display position doesn’t affect it). Could this be a backlight issue or a simple loose display connection?

The backlight power travels through the same cable as the displays signal. I’m sure your logic board display connector has an issue.

Double check things using an external monitor, if it doesn't have any issues then the other side connection or the cable its self has the issue.
Often I find people who use a spray cleaner or let the cleaner drip gets to the electronics at the base of the lid damaging it there.

Carefully slide off the clutch cover and lift the bezel that surrounds the display (use a hair dryer to heat it up a bit to soften the adhesive). so you can gain access to the cable and the connector on the T-CON board. Inspect the cable hopefully you only need a new cable. Otherwise its a full lid assembly.
