Returning to main menu freezes my console

My Nintendo DSi is working perfectly fine with just one small, but annoying inconvenience I haven’t been able to fix for years.

Whenever I return to the systems main menu, it gets stuck on a completely white top and bottom screen.

This happens when I short press the power button, exiting out of any app but also when trying to return to the DSi menu when leaving the settings app.

Updating to the latest OS and factory resetting both did not fix the problem.

I never really bothered fixing it since just turning the system off and on again was a good enough workaround so far, but I am wondering if there is anyone familiar with this problem. I had a really hard time finding a fix online, making me feel like this behavior might be very rare.
