iTunes loads up but can't access Store, I get unknown error (-2)

Got a November 2007 2.2GHz A1181 which appears to run but with issues.

I can’t access the store in iTunes, each time I try it tells me that an unknown error (-2) has occurred. Then iTunes hangs with the colour wheel. Can’t force quit either. The only thing is to force shut down with the power button. Tried to open safari and I get the colour wheel again. I had a couple of false starts linking to my wireless hub but now seems ok. Could all of this be down to the airport card??

What is the OS release is the system and the version of iTunes. You may need to get an upgrade them. Open the Apps Store to see what you can get.

@danj

I've just re-set the OS to the original that came with the MB, 10.5.6 and the iTunes is the issue that came bundled and is 8.0.2

I do have both 10.6.3 and 10.7 install disks and as the latter is the highest OS this machine will take do you suggest I install that before doing anything else?

@Peter Benson - I would start there the newest your system can run.

Sorry for the delay Dan but I followed your advice and got the OS up to Lion, which is as far as the book goes and all the problems appear to have gone away.

Many thanks for your help

@danj came up with the goodies on this question.

Following his direction I updated the OS as far is it would go, up to Lion 10.7.5

This resolved all my problems, thanks to you Dan
