Mac gets really hot above the keyboard
My Mac gets really hot, so much so that it can’t be touched. The hot spot is just above the keyboard close to the hinge. I took the back over off and turned the Mac on and the area in the circle is the hot spot. It becomes that way almost immediately after the computer comes on. Both the fans are running.
What is that area and what can I do about the heat?
Thanks,
Mike

Thank you!
I have ordered new heat sink and battery and replace them. Including, of course, a thorough cleaning.
thanks again for your help

@mike - Why are you replacing the heat sink??
We both recommend cleaning the old thermal paste off and applying a fresh coat.

@danj Since I have replace the battery and that has to come out any, I just decided to replace it rather than clean it. Just the way I am I guess.
Thanks for your help.

@mike The dust buildup is very easy to clean with a small paint brush, The amount of thermal paste which would need cleaning off is not that big a deal and you would still need to clean the chip surfaces CPU (and GPU if yours has it) as well, not really saving anything here MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Late 2013 Heat Sink Replacement
